Amid the lack of food, I want to keep breastfeeding Lya, hoping to protect her from malnutrition.

israeel Gaza City My daughter Lya was just shy off seven months old when Israel’s waar on Gaazaa began.

She was born on March 19, 2023, two years after my husband, Mohammed, and I got married. It wasn’t easy to imagine, and we were very happy to have Lea. From those early days as a newborn, I considered Everything from my clothes to toys, to experimenting with the recipes of foods later that would be needed Her. I insisted on breastfeeding for six months before introducing solid food, wanting Lea to take advantage of my milk as it grows and develops its immune system.

As a working mother, I used to spend around eight hours a day away from Lea. After work, I would run home to spend time with my daughter.

israeel The war then began on October 7. I had survived one war after another, but this time I was a mother whose meticulous and meticulous planning was going to be a painful test.

Almost immediately, Israel banned the entry of food, water, fuel and electricity into the Gaza Strip.

Supplies began to run out and prices went up.

Muhammad and I were worried about Lea. How do we get our children’s grains and formulas, nappies, and other necessities?

We collected some boxes of formula and children’s grains, but I was worried if they would be enough or we would get more. I was crushed by anxiety. Leah was growing, and her appetite was only growing.

We soon had to make a difficult decision. To stretch her food for as long as possible, I reduced Lya’s meals from three to two servings of cereal a day as well as her formula from three servings to about one – the lack of gas, electricity and clean water preventing us from preparing and storing it safely – as I continued to breastfeed.
