Butler, Pa. (AP) – Former President Donald Trump injured was assassinated at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, days before he was set to accept the Republican nomination for a third term. A hail of gunfire sparked panic, and a bloodied Trump, who said he had been shot in the ear, was surrounded by the Secret Service and ran to his SUV as he pumped his fists in defiance. Pumped while doing.
Trump’s campaign said the GOP nominee was “recovering” after the shooting, which it said left a hole in the top of his right ear.
“I immediately knew something was wrong as I heard a whooshing sound, shots fired and immediately felt a bullet go through the skin. Bleeding profusely,” he wrote on his social media site.
The FBI named Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as a suspect in the slaying early Sunday morning. The agency said the investigation is active and ongoing.
One attendee was killed and two spectators were seriously injured, officials said. All identified as male. The Secret Service said it killed the suspected shooter — who it said struck from an elevated vantage point outside the rally venue, a farm show in Butler, Pennsylvania — and said Trump was sa
The FBI said during a press conference late Saturday that it was not ready to release the identity of the shooter and had not yet determined a motive for the killing.

The attack was the deadliest assassination attempt on a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. It drew renewed attention to fears of political violence in a deeply polarized US less than four months before a presidential election. And it could change the timing and security of the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee.
Organizers said the convention would proceed as planned.
Trump flew to New Jersey after visiting a local hospital in Pennsylvania, landing at Newark Liberty International Airport shortly after midnight. A video posted by an aide showed the former president disembarking from his private jet with Secret Service agents and heavily armed members of the agency’s counter-assault team – powered by his security detail. An unusually visible display.
